The Crux

The development of Extended Schools marks an unprecedented opportunity for the local church to engage with their local schools. Youth for Christ's new schools resource 'The Crux' aims to resource churches in responding to this wonderful opportunity. This interactive resource offers an innovative, professional session forevery day of the school year from a Christian perspective.

The Crux is Youth for Christ's response to the Government’s desire to create a national network of extended schools. An extended school is one that is open from 8.00am until at least 6.00pm and is able to deliver what is known as the 'core offer'.   All schools will need to be able to offer this by 2010, half by the end of 2008. The philosophy behind this vision is based on MP David Miliband's suggestion that the church, through its own omission, has lost its place at the heart of its community and its place has been taken by the school.

Schools are desperate for help to deliver these extra curricular expectations and therefore the development of extended schools marks an unprecedented opportunity for the local church to engage with their local schools.

Over the next few years the Crux will build into an interactive resource offering an innovative, professional program for every day of the school year. Sessions range from sports to technology, creative arts to culture – all from a Christian perspective.

The Crux is designed so that it can be delivered by teaching professionals or local volunteers. With the help of an accompanying DVD, the material can be used by schools workers, youth workers, parents or governors. In fact anyone who cares about providing quality youth work.
