Worship Academy
Worship Academy is a project offering young people from the Wirral the opportunity to explore differnt approches to Christian worship together, to gain a deeper understanding of worship. Many of those who attend are gifted musically or vocally but not neccesarily so. Whilst deliberately focusing time on ‘worship leading’ those who attend are challenged to live their whole life as an act of worship to our loving God.
We are delighted to announce the start of our next Worship Academy on Tuesday the 26th January 2010. Meeting weekly at Greasby Methodist Church from 6.45pm to 9.00pm with workshops and time to write songs, record them and spend time worshipping together.
We will be covering topics such as:
- Creativity in worship
- Song writing
- Alternative styles of worship including Iona and Taize
- What the Bible says about worship
- Musicality and the technical side of worship
- Leadership
Worship academy aims to provide young people with hands on experience of different types of worship whilst developing their own gifts. The team is always made up of people from different backgrounds, denominations and traditions and this means the WA team is able to give young people challenging ideas and ways of looking at worship. There are also opportunities for the young people to write and record songs through the academy.
As Sarah Hockley, founder of the Wirral YFC Worship Academy suggests, “my passion and my heart is to see young people worship God and to see young people lead other young people; to see them leading worship in Churches of young and old. Through Wirral Worship Academy I believe we are playing our part in God’s desire to raise up and nurture passionate young worshipers. This project is so important because there is a new generation of young people who have the gifts of leadership and worship, I believe that they need to be inspired and taught how to use these gifts to serve God and to serve the Church.”
