WYFC in West Wirral
As the profile of WYFC grew in the late 90's so did the demand from Wirral’s schools. On any given day the team could deliver an assembly in the North of Wirral, a lesson in the South, a cu in the West and end up at an after school club in the East. Whilst these opportunities were very gratefully received on some days it could feel like time was spent dashing around the Wirral rather than making relationships and producing great work. It quickly became apparent that a more strategic approach to our work was required. In 2003 WYFC split into 4, and later 5, distinct projects: North Wirral, West Wirral, East Wirral, Church Resources and E:merge.
The West Wirral Project
The West Wirral project was originally managed by the legendary John Putman of E:merge and TVB fame. John visited the Wirral with TVB in 2001 and was snapped up by Dave Newton the following year.
The project was led with great succsess by Chris Phillips last year and it was a big loss to see him go. However, Dan Rogers the new team leader is and amazing replacment.
Whereas the other area projects are youth and schools work projects, the West Wirral Project is mainly focused on schools work. This is a direct response to the feedback from churches in the area who rightly pointed out that there were many very strong youth groups in the West of Wirral but few schools workers. It is amazing, given the nature of this project, that our West Wirral Leader is a qualifed RE teacher with a degree in Psychology and huge experience in teaching both at schools and in churches. Dan is actively involved in CU's, lessons and assemblies in many of West Wirral's schools.
