WYFC in East Wirral
As the profile of WYFC grew in the late 90's so did the demand from Wirral’s schools. On any given day the team could deliver an assembly in the North of Wirral, a lesson in the South, a cu in the West and end up at an after school club in the East. Whilst these opportunities were very gratefully received on some days it could feel like time was spent dashing around the Wirral rather than making relationships and producing great work. It quickly became apparent that a more strategic approach to our work was required. In 2003 WYFC split into 4, and later 5, distinct projects: North Wirral, West Wirral, East Wirral, Church Resources and E:merge.
The East Wirral Project
The East Wirral project began life as the 'Bebington Kick Project' and was hosted by our friends at Bebington Life Centre. The Kick project was a Wirral based, and Wirral YFC lead, football project staffed by British YFC football coaches.
As the project progressed it went through various stages of strategic development and in 2003 it became the project it is today under Martin Dickson's leadership. The East Wirral project as it is now known (a change in name which reflects the developmet it has undertook) has a great deal of profile in local schools. Although WYFC have been involved in every school in every secondary school the area the majoprity of our work has been in Wirral Grammar Girls, Rock Ferry High and Plessington recently.
Zoe Povall is the latest team leader for the project and she is already making huge progress in the area.
